Photos: Ribbon-Cutting with Historic Boston, Mayor Wu and Community
3 years ago, Historic Boston Inc took a chance on our restaurant and community space concept. Since 1960, HBI has worked to reactivate community space for the good of all. HBI acquired the Upham’s Corner Comfort Station over 7 years earlier in hopes of bringing the space back to life and back to use by the community. HBI quite literally built the foundation of our home by fundraising to restore the structure. They advocated for us to make the Comfort Station our home, through a global pandemic, endless delays and supply chain issues.
On Monday, June 26, Mayor Michelle Wu, Boston City officials and councilors, our community members and team celebrated the ribbon-cutting of the historic Comfort Station. A symbolic date that showed us all what is possible when you collaborate with organizations like HBI who lead from their values. Thank you to Kathy, Lisa, the staff at HBI and HBI board for taking this long journey with us. Thank you to our amazing team of 30+ for building CK with us.
In 1912, the Comfort Station was built to serve local commuters and now we’re grateful to be able to serve our community as well in a new way.
From Mayor Wu “…a historic site for this community, a location that really represents the commitment to ensuring that residents from this neighborhood, in the midst of their day-to-day lives and challenges and needing to get where they're trying to go, could have that little moment of rest and comfort and community. And after decades of sitting vacant, it's amazing to see this not only now back providing rest and respite and comfort and community, but jobs in our community, incredible cuisine, and a commitment to lifting up Upham’s Corner as a place where we want to center the voices of all those many, many cultures who make up this city.”
